NSW Podiatrist, Kate Walter, is dedicated to promoting the idea that foot care is not limited to the world of Podiatry. She believes that for a long time carers have been overly concerned about litigation and crossing professional boundaries and so limit the foot care they provide. She suggests that what we should really be worrying about is making sure everyone in our community has access to an appropriate level of foot care. It is completely inappropriate for an elderly or disabled member of our community, who has little foot pathology and is in good health, to have to pay a full consultation fee to a Podiatrist to receive foot hygeine. Podiatrists should be available to diagnose and manage foot problems and provide education to people about foot care.

Kate has helped to develop, promote and deliver a Basic Foot Care unit for NSW TAFE. She is also a lecturer in the Podiatry Program at the University of Newcastle, NSW.

  • Basic foot care covers the active prevention of foot problems by choosing appropriate footwear and the use of simple foot and toe paddings.
