Foot Care Equipment

Staff need to have access to the right equipment and know how to
  • use it
  • maintain it and
  • store it
A very simple basic foot care kit might include:

A box for storage

Try a two tier tool box on wheels.
You may be able to use the top as a seat.

Basic toenail clippers

For basic foot care - cutting and / or filing of normal toenails - it is fine to keep an individual set of clippers for each resident / client. If you want to keep a smaller number of sets and use them on multiple people – they should be sterilised. Sterilisation DOES NOT mean soaking in a disinfectant solution. It means, running them through a bench top sterliser as a part of a comprehensive sterilisation process.

Have a look at these NHMRC guidelines about reprocessing reusable equipment.

A foot stool

A foot stool can help save your back.

Consumables

Gloves, face masks, plastic aprons, dressings, saline, moisturisers, baby wipes or mediwipes for skin prep
